OSATT (Office of Strategic Alliances & Technology Transfer) CORE

  • A skit illustrating the services of OSATT Core was presented by our Guests.
  • OSATT Core (comprising Catalysts, Strategic Transactions, and Alliance Management) helps to initiate the development of research engagements and collaborations. They generally support PIs interested in research funded by for-profit companies, international government agencies, and foundations.
  • Specialization among the teams in OSATT reflects the fact that the considerations when converting PIs’ ideas into funded agreements differ among these external organizations.
  • [From website] Catalysts serve as an initial point of contact for MIT faculty and organizations that fund or sponsor research (or research-related activities) at MIT to support the development and refinement of project ideas and expectations towards the realization of mutually beneficial engagements.
  • [From website] The Strategic Transactions Team (STT) is responsible for drafting, reviewing and negotiating sponsored research and collaboration agreements, as well as confidentiality, data use, material transfer and other research-related agreements.
  • [From website] Alliance Managers connect faculty and other MIT researchers with the appropriate information, resources, and connections they need to facilitate their commitments to MIT’s external partners and collaborators.
  • OSATT-Core leads efforts for large industry agreements.
  • Non-disclosure agreements, Data Use agreements, and Material Transfer Agreements can be provided by OSATT Core.
  • Ideally, Program Manager funding can be paid for by sponsor, and OSATT Core can provide a dedicated Alliance Manager for first six months.
  • After review by Catalysts and Alliance Managers, Departments can put in a proposal for Kuali to RAS for compliance.
  • Meghan McCollum Fenno confirmed that if there is already a Master Agreement with a DLC, another one can be negotiated unless specific promises have been made. Talk to the sponsor to find out if there is a Master Agreement in place that can be used or if another one can be negotiated.

  • Invitation will be sent next week and RSVPs accepted for two weeks.
  • Online moderators will be needed to facilitate discussion.
  • Mary Ellen Sinkus suggested having something that documents the AACII's experience, such as notes from previous meetings and sharing them with attendees from the respective areas. Gabe Campos suggested using tools like Mentimeter and Slido to facilitate a honest discussion.
