Minutes December 12 2019

Marco Gomes and Eamon Kearns from IS&T

  • The management of services loaded onto MIT IDs (Tech Cash, building access, MBTA passes, etc.) is currently fragmented.
  • CCURE 800 is at the end of its useful life. All card readers and panels on campus will be replaced. Updates to programming will be easier on the new system.
  • Apple has granted Apple Wallet access to a select group of universities.
  • IS&T is implementing a new, virtual MIT ID that will be stored in Apple Wallet. Users will take their own photo and upload it. Physical IDs will still be an option. The new MIT IDs will be tied to Kerberos credentials, not to Apple IDs.
  • A version for Android phones is close to being in production. 70% of MIT's mobile app users have iOS phones.
  • Is iOS being chosen as a "winner"? No, it's just the first in production.
  • A new Atlas dashboard will show all services on a user's card, including building access clearances.
  • Until it implements a new fare collection system, the MBTA still requires a plastic card with an RFID chip.
  • For assigning building access and other services to an individual's ID, there will be a new web-based user interface with APIs. Citrix will no longer be needed. This interface will be available sometime around April. WebMoira can be used in the meantime.
  • Reporting functions will include privacy protections.
  • Will we be able to run reports showing people from other units who have access to our space? Gomes: "we'll have to explore that."
  • These changes have been approved by the IT Policy Committee, OGC, and VPF Contracts.
  • If a user loses their phone, the app -- including existing credentials -- can be downloaded onto a new phone.

AO Fundamentals Advisory Committee

  • AAC II members will be asked to nominate members.

Networking Breakfast

  • Tim Jamison will be the speaker.
  • The Agenda Committee is working on the rest of the panel members.
  • Will be in the Media Lab multi-purpose room.
  • During the panel discussion, each table will come up with a question/scenario to ask the panelists about.
  • How will we allow the panelists time to prepare their responses?
  • Based on past attendance, 8-10 tables are likely to participate.
  • Let each table ask more than one question in case more than one table has the same question.
